Does Pyramid Power and Sound Healing work or is it just hype?

The theory of Pyramid power states that a pyramid aligned to the earth’s magnetic field will concentrate energy. The pyramid is said to collect energy and focus it down from its apex. This energy is said to have healing properties and also to keep blades sharp as well as having preservation properties. It is claimed that “experiments have shown that pyramids have the power to change the mental, physical and emotional states of individuals who have been exposed to its vibrations” (from Pyramid Energy and the Healing Power of Pyramids which states that pyramids employ their energy for one’s benefit; to make one’s life more positive and healthy.)

It was with an open mind and a scientific ability to suspend judgement, that I visited The Pyramids of Chi in Ubud to experience a 90 minute ANCIENT SOUND HEALING session. I didn’t expect to walk out feeling 30 years younger having bid farewell to all the ailments of age, however I did want to partake of the experience.

“Humans have known for thousands of years that sound and vibration are one of the most powerful tools in existence for healing. Long before modern science, medicine people used sound to induce deep, meditative states with others. Healers used sound and complex rituals to trigger the natural healing process of their patients. The rhythmic frequencies produced by a plethora of Ancient instrumentation during our Sound Healing Sessions, layer into an ocean of vibration. These waves interact both with the water in our bodies, with our DNA and with our chakra system aiding the intelligence of our bodies to feel, heal, relax & release.” (from Pyramids of Chi)

With a wink and a generous dose of imagination – join me on my journey:

We entered the huge pyramid (14 metres high and an area of 156 square metres) with about 20 other participants. We lay on mattresses on the floor placing eye masks containing volcanic sand with magnetite (said to dispel anger and fear) on as the lights were slowly dimmed right down. Our leader then took us through some deep breathing exercises that began my journey towards relaxation. Then the singing bowls floated their sweet vibrational sounds through the air as I began to float below the surface of waking consciousness into a relaxing state of calm. A large gong was next – invoking further relaxation and inviting my imagination to take me on a journey. A wide range of deep vibrations played, crescendoing and surging, getting louder and louder. I envisioned angry forces swirling in this sound cacophony, they were my negative energies and tensions being awoken by the gong. These negative energies, once awakened and brought to the surface were being banished from my mind and body. The singing winds and crying beasts were leaving.

As I sunk deeper in my profound state of relaxation, the gong continued to roar and sing, but no longer were there any angry beasts. I was taken to a Shangrila of winds rushing through steep, dark mountain valleys in a high and isolated plateaux. The winds continued to blow and roar, then a beacon of light radiated down from the top of a green snow-capped mountain arising out of the darkness. I floated down into a meditative state, deeper and deeper.

I felt vibrations coming up through the mattress from the floor, entering my tingling fingertips and flowing into my body. Soon after that, I felt the vibrational energy leave my body, flowing out through my neck, back and shoulders, taking with it the tension and aches that often lived in my body. My shoulders dropped and eased away from my head in a state of release as I felt this tension exit my body, flowing down to the floor from my neck, shoulders and back.

The various gongs, bowls and other instruments continued to weave a web of deep relaxation. I heard the breathing of some of my neighbours become snores.

Bells and chimes, along with the gongs continued to play as I floated along in my deeply relaxed state. Eventually the leader gently encouraged us to return from our relaxed states and float back up to the surface of consciousness. I could not believe that more than an hour had passed!

I walked out of the pyramid feeling very calm and relaxed. My shoulders seemed to sit 6 or 8 cm lower and my back and neck were very loose. In the following days, despite a couple of strenuous waterfall hikes, I continued to enjoy this “looseness”. The constant neck and shoulder tension I live with has not returned and neither has the sometimes debilitating back/hip muscular pain.

The power of pyramids and sound healing – do you believe in it?

Only one way to find out…
