Sidemen Ricefields Walk – Bali’s “Real Bali”
Sidemen is around a 2 to 2.5 hour drive from Legian.
This is the REAL Bali.
Some people say Sidemen feels like Ubud 30 years ago — quieter, greener, and far less crowded.
The Sidemen Ricefields Walk actually consists of two separate loop walks.
Part 1 – Subak Irrigation Walk
Start at the entrance gate, purchase a 25,000 rupiah ticket (around $2.50 AUD), then walk down through the gate and follow the signs through local garden areas.
You’ll walk beside the traditional Subak irrigation channels. Subak is a centuries-old Balinese water management system that has existed for more than 1,000 years and is recognised by UNESCO as part of Bali’s cultural heritage.
Although we started before 8am, it was already very humid — but absolutely beautiful.
This section takes around 1–2 hours and covers roughly 2 km.
At the end of the walk, return to the entrance gate.
Part 2 – Sidemen Rice Terrace Walk
From the entrance gate, walk up the hill for about 200 metres.
You’ll see a sign on the right marked “Sidemen Rice Terrace”.
Follow this path for a scenic 30-minute walk through the rice terraces.
Good to Know
- Both walks are loops that return to the starting point
- The trails are very well signposted
- No guide is needed
